Yesler Terrace covers ZIP codes 98104 and 98122, occupying a 22-acre site defined by Yesler Way along its southern edge and Broadway along its eastern border. Yesler Way itself, Seattle’s original Skid Road, where logs were once hauled down to Henry Yesler’s waterfront mill, runs from Alaskan Way on the waterfront eastward through the neighborhood toward the Central District. Boren Avenue runs north-south along the western side. 9th Avenue and 10th Avenue South are the internal north-south streets that connect the neighborhood’s residential blocks between Yesler Way and the Harborview Medical Center campus above on Jefferson Street.
The First Hill Streetcar has a stop directly in front of the Yesler Community Center on Yesler Way, connecting residents to Capitol Hill, the International District/Chinatown, and Link Light Rail without a car. What Defines the Neighborhood Today
The Yesler Community Center, Seattle’s first LEED Gold certified community center, anchors the neighborhood at Yesler Way near Broadway, offering sports facilities, after-school programs, a computer lab, and arts programming for a diverse resident population. Yesler Terrace Park opened in 2018 beside the community center, adding 1.7 acres of green space with an outdoor fitness loop, a RAVE soccer field, and community garden plots to a neighborhood that previously had little of either.
The Yesler Hillclimb on 10th Avenue South is another defining feature, a pedestrian pathway with a ramp, staircase, and over 100 glass mosaic tiles created by community members in art workshops, connecting Little Saigon in the Chinatown-International District uphill to Yesler Terrace. A continuous Pedestrian Pathway runs diagonally through the development linking the hillside community to Harborview Medical Center to the north and the International District to the south. Washington Hall, built in 1908 and located in the eastern part of the redevelopment area, is one of the few historic structures being preserved through the transformation.
